September 16, 2024 – NEW YORK, NY. For its 2024 Artist Grant competition supporting early career visual artists, the Liu Shiming Art Foundation received nearly 1,000 applications from across the globe. The exceptionally diverse applicant pool included submissions from over 90 nationalities representing virtually every region of the world, including 21countries in Africa, 21 in Asia, 8 in the Middle East, 15 in Latin America and
the Caribbean, and 26 European countries, along with Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA.
Outside of the United States, which counted for just under 30% of the applicant pool, the 10 countries with the largest number of submissions were China, Nigeria, South Africa, United Kingdom, Canada, South Korea, India, Russia, and Israel. Within the United States, artists from 39 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico submitted applications.
The Foundation is now beginning a review process that will extend through the fall and conclude with our distinguished selection panel ranking the top applications. Final decisions will be made in December, with an announcement of the five recipients scheduled for early in the new year.
